Becker Professional Review held an informal presentation with pizza and drinks on January 27, 2005 to students interested in learning more about the CPA exam. They stressed that prospects for jobs are so good that the Big 4 accounting firms are even considering applicants who have GPAs around 3.0. This is due to the increase in reporting requirements and therefore the need for more accountants.
The presentation then focused on the CPA exam. They stressed the qualifications needed to sit for the exam and that there are two pathways to choose from in becoming certified. After discussing the eleven application steps, the four steps of the exam were explained to the group. The Becker Review courses are centered around the tests, which are administered the first two months of every quarter. The Becker representatives gave some helpful advice concerning planning for the exam. For example, they advised students who planned to take the exam to expect the application process to begin after the school has processed and confirmed graduation, which is usually 6-8 weeks. Also, the application is valid for nine months only and eighteen months are allowed to pass the whole exam. Becker Professional Review offers 26 total classes for the exam. What sets them apart from the other review courses is their unique simulation test, which is similar to the exam. They demonstrated the simulation program and gave students a better understanding of what the exam would entail. Not only did students come away feeling more informed about the whole process, but the Becker representatives gave away three $200 coupons for the course.
