School of Accounting Created at Golden Gate University

Dear All,
Golden Gate University is proud to announce the creation of the new School of Accounting and the appointment of Mary Canning as its new dean, effective September 1, 2006.
In response to an increased demand for new accountants that was created following the implementation of Sarbanes-Oxley and a revamping of the accounting industry, higher education must bring its accounting curriculum into alignment with an evolving set of needs.
The School of Accounting at GGU is being formed to provide a sharper focus to the program so that we can effectively align the skills of our students with emerging industry demands.
Our vision is to make GGU the leader in professional practice accounting education, producing graduates who are better prepared and more valuable to the accounting firms and companies that employ them. It is through relevant curriculum, focused practitioner faculty and experienced leadership that we believe the School of Accounting will be able to achieve this goal.
Dean Canning, who will continue to serve as dean of the School of Taxation, has extensive existing relationships with the firms that hire our students, forging an even stronger bond between the program and the industry.
At this time, no program, advising or administration changes will take place. For faculty related issues, please continue to call Yvonne Hynes, program coordinator at 415-442-6528. For UG academic advising, please call Rebecca Gowen at 415-442-6574. For graduate academic advising please contact a faculty advisor and for dean related issues, please contact Mary Canning at 415-442-7885.
We hope you are as excited as we are for the implementation of this improvement that will take an excellent accounting program and make it even better.
Best regards,
Philip Friedman
